Grasshopper, Allston, MA

Tofu Chicken Fingers

I need to apologize in advance for these dark sexy mood photos of Grasshopper. When I lived in Boston we usually ordered in from here, so it was these or photos proudly featuring Styrofoam takeout boxes (I know!) on our scratched-up coffee table. Grasshopper is a pretty venerable institution. Now that Buddha’s Delight (requiescat in pace) is gone, Grasshopper may in fact be the oldest vegan restaurant in the Metro Boston area.

Bánh xèo, aka "Vietnamese Pizza", which is actually more like an omelet

It’s a pretty serviceable mock-meat heavy Asian place. Some people like that, some people don’t. I can get into it from time to time. They are stronger at some things (the infamous No-Name, for example) than others (the fried rice). It’s been located down the street from not one but two other vegan pizza places now (Why do you guys always open right next door to each other? Fan out!), and I usually go for pizza first, but this is still certainly an option.
