Garden Grille, Pawtucket, RI

June 20, 2010

Nachos (these come with real cheese but are easily veganizable, they were using Follow Your Heart at the time of this photo but have since switched to Daiya)

Garden Grille is currently my favorite place to eat in all of New England. Any time I happen to be down in Rhode Island I try to go, which is easy because Rhode Island is the size of a pixie’s fingernail (Garden Grille is about a 10 minute drive from downtown Providence, so if you’re seeing a band at Lupo’s, it’s a nice place to grab dinner first.)

Heart of Palm "crab cake" with polenta, greens, and vegan aioli

They are entirely vegetarian, with many vegan items in addition to lots of easily veganizable entrees (just ask! they are sweeties!) They have a rotating array of vegan desserts, raw specials, wood-grilled pizzas, and a full bar (I heard something about vegan White Russians?)

Grilled pizza with fresh tomatoes, pesto, and vegan cheese.

Marble cheesecake with fresh strawberries and strawberry coulis

They do a very popular brunch with lots of ever changing selections. I’m not sure if they still offer the Grand Marnier french toast pictured below, but I have never been disappointed by anything I’ve tried here. On a related note, my Rhode Island operative tells me the Indian restaurant next door has started their own vegan brunch to try and draw some of those who might be put off by the long waits at Garden Grille, a situation we at New Vegland will be sure to investigate!

This is one of our favorite places, too – this post reminds me that we need to make a return visit soon! (Great idea for a blog; this will be a terrific resource!)
